Degaussing

it's been 4 days since i've started having my practicum at GMA-7 Network, Inc. as a freshie, i didn't quite expected that in our first 4 days, we'd be facing tons of unfinished work.
i'm not bragging about nor am i criticizing the tasks we've been given. i'm just too awed. me and 2 of my buddies were assigned to the Central News Library of the network. It's where the tape archives of the News Dep't are being kept.
1st day.
i was given the task to encode the tapes on the box marked as "for disposal". with a perky mood, i decided to sit in front of the computer and started encoding the taped numbers. after 3 hours, i began to feel tired but still determined to finish the remaining 3 boxes which stores 600 tapes. and for the record, i finished all of it in a span of 4 hours! wow! so much for a first day!
as a surprise, my mom texted me and asked me if i still want to watch a movie coz that's what she had promised me a week ago. although i'm really tired and sleepy and the fact that my migraine is starting to crush my head, i still obliged my mom. besides, it's her treat! so she fetched me up at GMA and we went to Robinsons Metro East to watch Ocean's Thirteen which by the way is a real stress reliever for a person like me. Seeing George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon in one hilarious seen just took away all the stress inside me that time.
2nd day.
this time, i'm not the one who's supposed to do the encoding, so our superior shifted me to another task. Degaussing.
what's Degaussing? it's root word is Degauss which means to erase files or informations using a magnetic field. cool.
the first time i used the "degausser" i was asked to remove my watch, my phone, my ipod and any tech gadget i may have because all the files and even the gadget itself might "meet it's doomed end". hahaha...
at the end of the day, i finished "degaussing" 3 boxes and man, my whole body hurts like hell. i think i need a massage.
3rd day.
this time, i was sent to the shelves. not because i did something wrong ha, but because i'm the one who's assigned to do the "shelf reading". i'm supposed to arrange, chronologically ,the tapes from top to bottom of the 6 foot tall, heavy and rotating cabinet. waaaaahhhh!!! there were instances that i almost got crushed while standing in between those shelves... boohoo!!
4th day.
now, this time, i'm not standing nor going up and down the ladder to shelf read the tapes nor stuck myslef in the computer to encode. instead, i just sat down in the work table that's been provided by our superiors.
wondering what's my task for the day? dvd labeling!
it's a gruesome work but somehow i really enjoyed it. you may find it weird but i really did have fun "cutting and pasting and cutting and pasting then listing" the same numbers.
redundant? yes.
boring? no.
tiring? absolutely yes!
but inspite those things i've mentioned above, i'm still grateful enough that me and 2 of my buddies are being trained by a network that has a powerful reputation in the media industry. and working with people like, ms. cecille, ms. ada, ms. issa, ms. lyn, ms. maita, sir dave and all the other librarians is really an honor.
wo. now i'm sounding like a full pledged Kapuso!
